Hey everyone, this is more of an opinion qustion, what do you think of Acer laptops?

We just bought one on Cyber Monday, and after a loooooot of research we decided to go with the Acer.

Acer is actually pretty good and of course affordable. I’ve only owned one but worked fine for me. I’ve also bought Acer LCD’s and had no problem with them either. If my Vaio went out on me I’d most likely buy an Acer.

I like acer, I have a freind who will only buy them. And our school just bought a bunch. Do you have any specific questions?

I think for the price they are a decent product, one of the better ones for the average computer user. I have ordered them for clients before and everyone seems happy enough with them, I would consider buying myself one the next time I need a general purpose laptop.

Wouldn’t be my first choice, but they are okay.

I’m sure there are better machines, but I love the size (a nice change from my old Dell Inspiron 17″). My father-in-law had one for work and I got one for school; it’s done well by me.

I would have been a bit hesadent a few years ago but Acer is makeing a name for theirselfs and everyone i know that has one is happy.

I was planning to get a laptop for black friday but now i’m interested in getting one for cyber monday instead. I’ve never ordered any electronics online. My friend has ordered phones and cameras online and all of them have been shoddy or have broken soon after she got them. What happens if something happens to the laptop you order online. Does a regular warranty included like in stores when you get the 1 year warranty included. I wasn’t really planning on buying a warranty deal. Can anyone give me any links for cyber monday for good laptops not too pricey?

If you buy a new laptop online it should come with a 1 year warranty. Buy from a well known online retailer, Amazon or even Ebay.
Don’t by from some cowboy site no one has ever heard of.

I suggest the first laptop, it has a stronger processor and the extra 2GB of memory on option 2 isn’t necessary. You’re definitely getting more bang for your buck with the first option.

This is really crazy. I configured a laptop and want to buy it 2day on cyber monday but HP website is down for more than 6 hours. They are not picking up phone either. How can company like HP be down for this long on one of the biggest sale days. Either they are ignorant towards customers or just have big problem..

I’m having the same issue as you, i configured a laptop as well…this seems like such a sham

They are not ignorant don’t worry. I’ll tell you what happened. A HUGE LOAD OF PEOPLE went on the website at the exact same time and made it crash. Looks like cyber monday was popular…If they don’t get the site up today, maybe they might extend the sale. Just hope for the best. they are fixing the problem.

Well, they *are* a bit ignorant in how they should treat their customers.

Take for example, the debacle surrounding their DV series Fiasco.

Take a moment and read that Extended Service Warranty that they quietly issues on their website. Apparently, there was an issue with the Nvidia chipsets that were used when they built a large portion of the DV2000 line, the DV6000 line, and the DV9000 line. Nothing was wrong with the chips as such, but HP used an inadequate bonding substrate in the motherboard assembly process, so that under normal usage, the boards would begin to fail resulting in a variety of symptoms… and they are listed there in that notification.

Did HP notify any of their customers that their laptops were going to fail? Nope. In fact, if you read that, you will notice there is a 2 year limitation on it. So, if you purchased your laptop, and the defect in construction did not rear it’s head until 2 years after you bought it, you were stuck. HP would not repair the unit at their cost. Oh, they would pay for the shipping from you, the replacement motherboard, and the shipping back to you if you got to them UNDER the 2 year limit… but as far as HP was concerned, all those laptops were only good for two years. HP did not feel they should stand behind their product for any longer than that. EVEN WHEN THEY KNEW THEY WERE AT FAULT!

As a laptop repairman, I had to deal with this problem MANY times. There were more units than I can count that came across my bench, where I had to turn around and tell the customer… “Well, you might or might not have to pay to repair this. When did you buy and register it… because that alone will decide whether or not this is going to cost you anything.”

I have never been a big fan of HP. I have seen machines built by HP fail time after time while other machines used under similar (or in some cases EXACT) circumstances kept right on running. Their choice of Bestec power supply units in their desktops is downright irresponsible.

Did you know that HP regularly deletes hardware drivers from their support website? It is true. As they introduce newer units, they remove the hardware drivers for their older equipment from the site. So, if you have a Compaq or HP computer from a few years ago, and you have to reinstall Windows… you may be out of luck getting all of the components to work properly, because HP will no linger have the drivers online. No other company culls their older drivers like that. Why HP? As incentive to get people to purchase new equipment (that they may not need) rather than keep their older hardware working (even if it still works fine for their needs).

So, am I surprised that their online store could not handle the traffic of Cyber Monday? Nope. I’m just surprised that people still purchase HP. Horror stories abound on the net, about their customer service, support, and products.

I am not familiar with Cyber Mondays much more if Sony Vaio will be there.

You will need to specify where you will use it. You can order OLPC laptop or the Intel Classmate both of which will cost you about $ 200 but its features will be very limited.

You can also check ebay for cheap ones. Do not forget the 2nd hands and refurbished section but be wary on their reliability..the best is to go for a brand new ones. Check out USAnotebook.com, they have old stocks and selling it for low prices. These are old laptops refurbished by the company but might do what you wished for. It may not run Vista but you can load some old OS in it so it will run faster.

Also, check out your local stores, they might be offering bargains or sales to get rid of old stocks. But I dobt if they will be offering it $ 500 or below. No harm in checking.

I saw a nice Dell laptop computer on Walmart.com (it’s not sold in stores). The price is currently $ 498.99. Does anyone know if any good quality laptops will be sold for less on Cyber Monday??? It doesn’t have to be at Walmart.com..it can be any place that sells laptops (BestBuy, CircuitCity, etc.)

toshiba tablet review get So I decided to get an Alienware M14x just because I have always wanted one. I know it is overpriced but aside from that, my question is: should I buy the laptop this weekend rather than wait and buy it on Cyber Monday.

I don’t have an answer about the waiting thing this weekend. I agree, if you can wait then I would. Also I run all of those games you mentioned, and I really do believe that the i7 is the way to go. I went that route and find it the best choice.

Also I chose to go with the Dell option, who as you know purchased Alienware, if you are really really into saving money you can go the Dell route, save even more money and get more machine. I like Alienware but you do pay for the name.

As far as the desktop vs laptop discussion, yes, desktops are known for being easier to personalize and make into a gaming rig, however sometimes laptops are just the best way to go. For me I had to go the laptop route and I find all the above games run wonderfully on it. I literally play all of those, plus some… so I can say with confidence the i7 is a solid solution that will run any of those.

Cyber Monday has nothing to do with sales tax.
Cyber Monday is a discount on merchandise from the vendor.
HP is required to charge sales tax since they have a presence in your state.

So I was planning on going black friday shopping this year and I was just curious as to how it works…
Because I was going to buy a slr camera and a laptop, but when you purchase those items dont you need a employee to get it for you ? But I dont see how employees can help you if most of them will be occupied or something…but yeah, thanks for you help.

It sure does I bought a lap top thats regular price is 800 for 450. It just depends where you shop like if you want clothes and things like that then go to like J.C.Penny, Ross, Marshalls, etc… And if you electronics go to Best Buy, Walmart., Target, etc. Many people take Black friday seriously and are willing to do anything to get what they want. Another thing like u you who wants electronics many people are in lines for days outside the store just to the sale so beware you might not find what you want. And to answer your question for example at Walmart they put ipod touchs like 50 in a cart and put them in the bedding department, or for example you get in line for like a huge tv and you wait they give you a paper and you come back later for it. You want to be the first person in the store. Most of the really good items are going to go first and stores usually only carry 1 or 2 of them. In all my Black Friday searches I think I found the best one. This company called Eco Life is doing 50% off everything in the store and if you refer another paying customer you get another 25% off your purchase. They have some crazy good deals! Don’t settle for the Ace, because if you do, you’re going to be missing out much more so than if you were to get the Galaxy S. Also, the Galaxy S comes with either 8/16 GB of pre-installed memory AND a SD card. It also has a front-facing camera, so you can Skype chat with people.

I don’t know if this would work, and this is sort of a hack, but what if you took an oscillating fan (like the kind that move back and forth), removed the fan blade (not hard to do on most – just take the clips off the “cage” part and unscrew what’s holding the blade on), and then duct-taped the monitor or something to hold the monitor onto that, and it would continually pan back and forth so you could see both?

HTC laks in everything in my opinion in front of Ace… Ace has a better display(HVGA) where as HTC has WVGA.. This makes a lot of difference and not to mention that Galaxy Ace has 800mhz processor where as HTC has 600mhz…

The Wildfire S has Google Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) with higher resolution. On other hands, Galaxy Ace has Google Android 2.2 (Froyo) and slightly thinner than HTC but the screen is larger than HTC. It also support Video calling. So, both the hand-sets are amazing but they are quit similar and different too.
